Gilbert Demei and Helacio Ngiraibakes, citizens and registered voters of Ngatpang State, filed a criminal complaint against the instigators of the Ngatpang Citizens’ Petition last Tuesday, August 5.According to Demei, the petition, which he and Ngiraibakes allegedly had signed, was doctored; and “we did not sign the petition nor do we support what is stated in it.”“Someone or a group of people had knowingly and illegally used our names to promote their political meanderings,” he said, “and we want to clear our names, correct the wrong doing; and in the process, seek prosecution, to the full extent of all applicable laws, of those responsible.”Demei said that BPS officers have assured him that investigative work into their complaint has begun in accordance with set and practiced procedures. The names that appeared on the signature page of the petition, according to Demei and documents received from reliable sources, are symmetrically identical in every aspect except for slight alterations of the dates to which the signing allegedly took place.“No one signed the Ngatpang Citizens’ Petition,” Demei said. “The signature page that was attached to the petition is a duplicate of another signature page for a candidate who ran for the Office of the Governor of the state in 2007.”Demei said that anyone who claims he or she signed the petition that was sent to the high government officials is liar and either had been lied to or is a conspirator.“We will pursue this matter to highest level of the courts,” he said. “We will see to it that everyone involved in this criminal wrongdoing is identified and brought to justice.”Horizon had published an article about the alleged and now controversial Ngatpang Citizen’s petition on February 26, 2008. In July, Horizon received documents negating the validity of the petition.
