40 Filipino workers attend culinary arts class

Hermie Coronejo, one of the  cooks of Fiesta Resort & Spa, was the volunteer instructor,

“The participants were so willing to learn — they started applying what they have learned,” he told Variety.

Named one of the 10 outstanding Filipino workers on Saipan in 2001, Coronejo has been teaching the cooking classes sponsored by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in cooperation of the Philippine Consulate General Office.

He said these classes are very effective because hands-on cooking is  encouraged.

During the recently held class, Coronejo demonstrated the correct preparation of fish fillet, the proper mixture of exotic seasoning and food ingredients as well as other garnishing and cooking techniques.

Philippine Labor Attache Joan Lourdes D. Lavilla, said a lot of guest workers are signing up for the various skills upgrading and development training sessions her office offers.

“Some of them, particularly those working as house helpers, shared what they have learned with their employers,” Lavilla said.
