Taotao Tano urges Legislature to impeach Fitial, Villagomez

Cruz submitted his letter of intent to the Senate and House of Representatives, urging them to impeach the CNMI’s two top elected officials for treason, neglect of duty and disgrace in public office.

According to Cruz, “We want to send a clear message  that we the people of the commonwealth are no longer be ignorant or can be mistreated and disrespected as if we have no say on  current matters.”

He said the serious situation of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. affects public safety, health, services and welfare. “This is a proof enough for an impeachment to take place,” he added.

Cruz said Fitial and Villagomez  are not serving and protecting the people of CNMI but are “endangering our community with their excessive use and abuse of executive authorities in declaring a state of emergency declaration to sole source contractors benefiting themselves and their constituents.”

Cruz said the CUC’s problems are caused by years of politicking and politicians pursuing their self-interests.

This crisis, he added, is not the making of the federal government which has consistently supported the commonwealth through grants and other forms of assistance.

“To say that it’s the responsibility of the federal government to address the power crisis is an embarrassment and insult to the United States government and to our people,” Cruz said.

He said “politics, ignorance and self-interest” must end in the government, and the governor and lt. governor must be held responsible for the crisis the CNMI is facing now.
