40 nab for illegal fishing

Bureau of Public Safety Director Norvert H. Yano said that these violations include the illegal taking of undersized Turtles, illegal taking of Humphead Parrotfish (Berdebed, Kemedukl), illegal taking of Napoleon Wrasse (Ngimer, Maml), as well as illegal methods of fishing which include but are not limited to fishing with scuba tanks and undersized fishing (Kesokes) net.Yano said these illegal activities are violations of Turtle Season Law and violation of Grouper Season law.Yano said some of these cases are still ongoing with the remaining cases transmitted to the Attorney General’s Office for review and prosecution.Yano would like to remind the public to comply with the Republic’s Conservation Laws.The BPS Director said that Turtle Season remains closed at this time until August 31.A total ban on fishing or acquisition of the Juvenile Humphead Parrot Fish (Berdebed), juvenile Napoleon Wrasse or Ngimr, adult Humphead Parrot Fish or Kemedukl and adult Napoleon Wrasse or Maml.Yano added that fishing using any form of underwater breathing apparatus other than a snorkel is strictly prohibited.Violation of these laws will result in monetary fines, imprisonment or both and equipment used and or associated with the violation of this law shall be subject to forfeiture, Yano said.“The public is requested to observe and comply with the law. Conservation of fish and wildlife is good for all of us and let us all put our efforts to preserve our environment for future generations to enjoy as we are today,”Yano said in a press statement.Yano said anyone who wants to report illegal fishing and wildlife activities can call BPS at 4882423 or directly to the Division of Fish and Wildlife Protection at 4882487 or Crime Stoppers at 4888477.
