FIVB official arrives to hold coaching clinic

The NMIVA said in a press statement that Santamaria will stay on Saipan until next week to conduct Level 1 of the Coaches Course for which the participants will get FIVB Level 1 Coaching Certificate, an invaluable asset towards the development of volleyball for both the CNMI as a whole and for the individuals.

NMIVA’s Laurie Peterka said there are ten people confirmed to participate in the clinic and they still have room for up to 30 more.

This clinic, she said is open to volleyball players, at least 18-years of age, who have basic skills and knowledge of the game.

“We are doing everything we can to help facilitate participation and provide access to everyone who is interested in this clinic. This is not a fundraising event. Fees are strictly being used to facilitate this event. We’ve managed to keep costs down so it looks like we will be able to offer successful graduates a rebate of approximately 75% of the original deposit,” said Peterka.

For his part, NMIVA board member, Russ Quinn said they consider this as an opportunity for physical education teachers and community programs developers to take advantage of a program which would otherwise cost a couple-thousand dollars when attended off-island.

“We hope that schools and community groups will recognize the value of sponsoring one to two individuals for a nominal fee,” Quinn said.

The NMIVA was selected to participate in FIVB under-privileged countries program— the Volleyball Cooperation Programme—which is part of Volleyball World Vision 2012.

The program, according to Peterka will focus on indoor volleyball coaching practices, theories, and techniques.

Those who wish to participate please come to the Marianas High School Gym at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

The course begins at 3 p.m., d will go on daily up to 10 p.m, until Aug. 27.

The deposit for the course is $150 for non-NMIVA members or $130 for NMIVA members.

The fees include coaching workbook, videos and handouts, equipment for training, t-shirts, facilities and a graduation-banquet at Pacific Islands Club.
