Salty Boys win ECSL Pennant; Play offs set

The Salty Boys hitting was superb – if not excellent – that none of the scorer’s boxes contained a zero.  On the other hand, ChelidWith’s defense disintegrated in the opening inning and numerous defensive errors plagued the team.  ChelidWith’s offense did not pick up either and most of the Salty Boys scores went unanswered. In the end, the game was called off in the bottom of the 5th inning after Chelidwith failed to bring its score to within 10 of the Salty Boys’ – the 10-run rule.  The final score was Salty Boys 15 and ChelidWith 3.In other ECSL games, the Kayangel Angels (masters) defeated the Ngarchelong Blue Sharks (25-18); and K-Angels (open) defeated the younger Blue Sharks (15-10).  The Older Salty Boys also defeated Ngiwal’s Kiuluul by way of a 10-run ruling – 15 to 5.Last Sunday ECSL games marked the end of the league’s regular season. The ECSL teams that have secured spots in the playoffs next weekend are as follows:  (Open Division) Salty Boys, ChelidWith, Ngchesar, and either Ngaraard’s N-5 Reds or K-Angels (both teams have similar records and the league officials will make the determination as to who will be in the playoffs dependent on the number of scores each respect team earned over opponents during the regular season); and in the masters division, the Ngaraard Redmen (ECSL Masters’ Division pennant winner), the older Salty Boys, Ngarchelong Blue Sharks, and Ngchesar/Oldiais.According to Don Bukurrou, ECSL commissioner, team managers will be meeting with the league’s officials to set a schedule for the playoffs this weekend.“It is likely that the games will be played on Saturday and Sunday,” Bukurrou said. “We still have to determine who will play in the fourth spot – K-Angels or N-5 Reds – in the open division and then we would iron out the details of the playoffs schedule.”Bukurrou further added that the championship games are expected be very exciting and fans for the teams are readying their cheers.  Moreover, Bukurrou said that everyone is invited to the playoffs, “ if not to cheer for any of the teams, then to witness and take part in the concert of the East Coast Softball League.”
