THE Loving Hands Daycare/670 Sonics and Checkpoint remain unscathed in the open division of the 2023 Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club Invitational Basketball League after beating their respective opponents Monday at the Gualo Rai basketball court.

The Lovings Hands notched their second win of the season by overwhelming Socho, 60-40.

In the opening quarter, Socho’s Tim Pangelinan sank the first two buckets while the rest of his teammates chipped in. However, their eagerness on the defensive end came at a cost as they committed a handful of fouls, sending Loving Hands to the line for free throws that allowed them to seize the lead, 12-9.

In the second quarter, the Loving Hands were unstoppable as Aldrin Dancel and Rafael Ordona took turns on the offensive end, scoring 10 points. Their defense also played a huge factor in holding Socho to just eight team points while Ordona picked up where he left off, delivering six straight points to extend his team’s lead, 35-17.

Socho reassessed their strategy and returned from the halftime with better defensive awareness and more stops. However, they continued to struggle in finding the bottom of the net, and were soon trailing by 20 points.

In the fourth and final quarter, Socho started to gain more confidence as Ray Babauta and Russ Hocog drained a pair of three-pointers. Not to be outdone, the Loving Hands’ Bryan Bernardo delivered eight consecutive buckets en route to victory, 60-40.

Checkpoint vs Bridge Capital

Checkpoint clinched another blowout victory, this time against Bridge Capital, 104-58.

Checkpoint established dominance right from the start with three-pointers courtesy of Jack Aranda, who sank two, and Keith Santos, who converted one, while Sid Quan attacked from within the perimeter to score four points and give their team a first-quarter lead, 27-14.

Bridge Capital tried to fight back by relying on Ronald Bernardo, Gelo Genese and Meljune Capalad, but they they could not stop  Checkpoint from firing at will, including 15 three-point shots that sealed the deal, 104-58.
