Clean-up yield 2,000 lbs. of trash

James Wilkie, coordinator of International Clean-Up 2008 said that there were over 100 participants who picked up trash in the shorelines including divers and snorkelers who dove in the water to collect debris.

Denny Tucker of Neco Marine said that the trash collected included old sewing machine, diapers, bottles, tires and other debris.Denny said that the clean-up had a huge turnout with participants picking up trash in Meyuns Causeway, Long Island Park and in the Malakal area.The Koror diving community assisted in the clean-up and local residents as well. Local residents were also seen picking up in Medalii area.Palau joined in the PADI Project Aware International Coastal Clean-up.Project AWARE Foundation, the dive industry’s leading environmental organization, coordinated the underwater clean up events.As early as 7:30 a.m. the participants started picking up trash.Project AWARE Foundation is the dive industry’s leading non-profit environmental organization dedicated to conserving underwater environments through education, advocacy and action.
