NMITF sets 8.5 miles distance for bike & run race

Coined “Leapfrog”, the bike and run race will begin and end at Paupau Beach at 6:30 a.m.

Given the estimated distance for the said race, NMITF approximates that an average finishing time would take about one hour, and five minutes.

NMITF describes the leapfrog event as sports which involve a two-person team, using one bicycle, each alternating the bike and run leg portion of the race.

Everyone starts the race at the same time from the starting line, wherein one team member rides ahead and leaves the bike at a designated exchange point, and begins running.

The second teammate runs to the bike and rides past, or leapfrogs, their partner and drops the bike at the next designated   exchange point.

The process is repeated until the team that completes the entire course of the race wins.

There will be 10 exchange points for the Leapfrog event, according to NMITF, adding that each exchange points will have a distance of about 1/2 mile.

NMITF requires all participants for the Leapfrog to wear helmets in the bike leg portion of the race.

Prizes, trophies, and several items await the winning team and the rest of the participants.

An entry fee is set for the event – $10 per person for non-NMITF members, and $5 for NMITF members.

The Leapfrog sports event is sponsored by Pacific islands Club, BankPacific, Dr. Irma Halaby, Hardt Eye Clinic, Dr. Edgar Tudor, Romy’s Bike Shop, Saipan Cellular Communications, Marianas Eye Institute, Duty Free Shoppers, Ltd., and the law offices of Eric Smith.
