Vice President Elias Camsek Chin in an interview yesterday said that a fishing vessel was intercepted within Palau’s Exclusive Economic Zone while PSS Remeliik was conducting its regular patrol.
Chin said the patrol officers immediately got on board after intercepting the vessel.Chin said no details are available yet about the incident because the patrol boat has not arrived yet.Chin said he is expecting to get a complete report by today.A Taiwan News online reported that Taiwan official has asked Palau, Indonesia and the Philippines for help locating the vessel which have been reportedly missing since August 19.The fishing boat Tai Yi Hsiang was fishing for tuna near Palau. The boat has one captain and eight Indonesian crewmen.The captain’s family last heard on him on August 19 when it left Taiwan to fish in Palau waters.The report stated that the vessel may have been hijacked by its crew.
