Maj. Edward Manalili said the Division of Immigration has no record that Alex Matubis left the island.
He said one of the first things they do when a missing person is reported is to alert all port authorities.
Immigration uses a method called Border Management System that enables it to record who enters and leaves the islands.
But Manalili said they are not ruling out the possibility that Matubis used a fake passport if he was trying to leave the island without informing anyone.
He said Matubis’ case will remain open until he is found.
Matubis’ wife arrived on Saipan from Manila over the weekend, and Manalili is hoping she will meet with the police.
Matubis was reported missing on July 28.
Initial investigation showed that Matubis had been having problems with his current employer over delayed salaries.
He has been in Saipan for more than two decades working as a draftsman and graphic artist.
Mrs. Matubis told the local media that she last spoke with her husband over the phone on July 21 before he left for Tinian to work on a project.
They have two teenage children.
Manalili said they have eyewitnesses who confirmed seeing Matubis in Marpi where he ditched his pick-up truck.
Mrs. Matubis said her husband remitted his four months worth of salary before he disappeared.
Manalili said Mr. Matubis may be depressed and expressed hope that he’s safe.
The public is encouraged to call the CID at 664-9042/45, 911 or the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 234-7272 for any sightings of Matubis.
Manalili said about five years ago a Japanese tourist went missing on Saipan.
His wife came to the island but he was never found.
His case remains open.
