ECSL Playoffs and Championship set for Saturday

According to Don Bukurrou, ECSL commissioner, “mother nature pulled a fast one over the weekend.  It was bright and sunny on Saturday, then she turned the tables on us on Sunday, and all the games had to be postponed.”

The playoff games, if they were played, would have pitted  (Masters’ division) Ngaraard’s Redmen against the Melekeok’s Salty Boys and Ngchesar’s Oldiais against Ngarchelong’s Blue Sharks; and (Open division) Kayangel’s Angels against Melekeok’s Salty Boys and Ngiwal’s ChelidWith.  The winners of the respective games would have played for the championship titles this coming Sunday.Bukurrou stated that due to time constraints, all of the games – playoffs, consolation, and championship games – would all be played on Saturday, September 6.“We had decided to squeeze all the games into Saturday,” he said. “This would provide us just enough hours to complete the scheduled eight games; and we also would have half of Sunday reserved for unpredicted but necessary changes.”Bukurrou said that games this Saturday will be ECSL finale games and everyone is invited to watch “the best at play.”  He further added that ECSL teams who did not make the playoffs are more than welcome to bring their fans to witness who will claim the ECSL titles this year.In addition to the final games of ECSL 2008 season, Bukurrou said that managers and coaches will be meeting after the games to plan for a coed ECSL.“We are currently planning to start a coed league as early as possible,” Bukurrou said. “We have had women play – Kayangel and Ngchesar – in the ECSL; however, the new season would require at least three women players per team per a game.”According to Bukurrou, the coed ECSL will be a prelude to the 2009 ECSL season.  Moreover, he said implementing the coed season would allow for team members to hone their skills, stay in shape, and continue to keep the spirit of the ECSL alive. The ECSL playoff and championship games have been scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at Ngarchelong Baseball Field.  All participating teams are asked to be present at the field prior to the beginning of the games.
