Training organizer and facilitator Arturo S. Tagum Jr., Marianas Medical Center x-ray and ultra sound technician, said they used the Heartsaver CPR course materials of the American Heart Association.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that participants can avail for their continuous education and to save lives,” Tagum said.
Firefighter 3 Francis I. Manglona of the Department of Public Safety Fire Division, told Variety that the “student are very cooperative and willing to learn” during the five-hour, hands-on training on CPR application.
“I encouraged the students who finished the course to memorize by heart what they have learned so they are prepared in case of emergency,” Manglona said.
Participants learned how to apply CPR on adults, children and infants.
They also learned how to prevent an infant or an adult from choking.
Manglona said effective CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, can help a person in cardiac arrest.
Dr. Tiffany L. Willis of the Marianas Medical Center conducted a brief lecture about high-blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes.
Willis talked about the prevention and treatment of these diseases and their causes.
During the graduation ceremony of the 18 participants at the Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe, Philippine Consul General Wilfredo DL. Maximo lauded the instructors for their “generosity and outstanding service.”
“The course is very helpful. This is an added value to one self,” he said.
Given recognition by the Philippine Consulate General and the Philippines Overseas Labor Office were Manglona, Firefighter 1 Fidel S. Atalig, Firefighter 1 Jayendran Jairam, acting Assistant Fire Chief Thomas M. Manglona Jr., Tagum and Willis.
The training was conducted by the Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Management Services and partners.
One of the participants, Ignacio Banadera Jr., a Saipan Shipping accounting manager, said the course was very practical and satisfactory.
“It will help a lot especially in our working place. We must be always ready and now we know what to do,” Banadera said.
Also completing the training were Rovel T. Caberos, Julie S. Degayo, Nenita G. Feliciano, Lamberto B. Flores, Felicitas V. Gabuyo, Cristina DLC. Lifoifoi, Merly I. Mago, Mylene M.
