EMO fixes antenna that gets Anatahan seismic signals

Juan T. Camacho, EMO’s seismic supervisor, said they have to get rid of the antenna, which was not properly elevated.

Installed on the roof top of EMO’s office on Capital Hill, the antenna cannot be adjusted vertically to get signals from Anatahan, Camacho said.

They bought a new $300 antenna which was installed yesterday.

Anatahan has three antennas — ANN-E, ANA-2, and AFOK —that send signals to the seismometer at the EMO office on Saipan.

AFOK has been out of service since it was covered with ash from a recent eruption on Anatahan.

These antennas, Camacho said, are very important for the CNMI’s early warning system in case of a volcanic eruption in the Northern Islands.
