Rollers I stumble in 1st encounter with Sixers

This was what happened to Rollers I during their match with Sixers on Friday last week in the Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League held at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Sixers won the game, 61-54.

Rollers I were fighting it out with Sixers as fierce as they can during the entire game but got into foul trouble and into many turnovers in their bid to get to the top of the scoreboard.

Rollers I slid down to a seven-point deficit from Sixers in the final period, leaving them with no more time to recoup from the damage on their team score.

The first period was only a matter of one-point deficit, but this single point difference did not drop.

The offensive stance of Sixers’ Ernest Duenas made it extra difficult for Rollers I cagers to close in the gap.

The other Sixers came out strong as well with their respective point loads which they unleashed in the second period of play.

Matt Duenas, Joe Ada, Ian Benavente and a few others came on strong on the basket.

Meanwhile, the dirty job of recovering from Sixers’ advance was practically left to Manny Matagolai who made 13 points, Don Teregeyo who made 11 points and Jomar Danas who made 12 points.

In previous games, Sixers pounded Rollers II in a lopsided win, 64-28.

Sixers is scheduled to play today with Kontenders at 6 p.m., while Rollers I is set to pit against Sonics on Thursday, same time.

Score:

Sixers – 61: E. Duenas – 17; M. Duenas – 10; Ada – 10; Benavente – 8; Aaron Agtarap – 6; Novo Pepito – 6; N. Flores – 2; and Rodney Salas – 2.

Rollers I – 54: Matagolai – 13; Juan Agulto – 2; Teregeyo – 11; Ranier DeLeon Guerrero – 4; Edwin Camacho – 1; Fred Rez – 3; Danas – 12; J.R. Concepcion – 2; and Tom Castro – 6.
