Giving Gov. Felix P. Camacho money to have lobbyists is like putting the fox in charge of the hen house.
First, Camacho is in Adelup only because he and his operatives both overtly and covertly were able to DESTROY the reputation and integrity of his erstwhile opponent, Congressman Robert A. Underwood, not once but twice.
Second, Camacho’s supporters in the U.S. Senate BLOCKED final passage of the Loyalty Recognition Act because that would have meant an additional “surge” of support for the Democratic candidate prior to the 2002 gubernatorial elections.
Then-Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-South Dakota, had to get that one Republican senator who placed a “hold” on final passage to release that hold as it were, after the elections.
So how did Camacho accomplish both points at the expense of his opponent and at the expense of the people? Presumably through the efforts of lobbyist like Jack Abramoff, who is sitting in a federal penitentiary. My question is this: Why is only Jack Abramoff in the federal penitentiary?
On a related note, the Democratic senator who helped pan this wear the sunshine stripes and their mentor, former Gov. Carl T.C. Gutierrez, has had ties with lobbyists just as the current governor has. (Who got Fred Black, the former U.S. attorney for NMI and Guam removed?)
The people of Guam should be very wary in placing Sunshine Democrats and incumbent Republicans into the 30th Legislature as these folks are just are just setting the stage for 2010, for their friends and cronies not for you.
