DPS spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said the unit resumed its search yesterday morning for the body of 42-year-old Hilario M. Palino.
The search began on Monday, but the big waves and high surf conditions prevented the rescuers from recovering the body.
Palino’s body was recovered at 8:51 a.m. yesterday along the shoreline near the northern side of Marine Beach in Kagman.
The victim was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:26 a.m.
DPS worked with the Emergency Management Office and Commonwealth Ports Authority in the resumption of the land and water search for Palino yesterday. The search operation ended at 9:58 a.m.
Palino’s employer, Saipan Stevedore Inc., said his family will receive compensation from the company.
Palino worked for the company for over 10 years. He left behind a wife and five children, the youngest of whom is one-year-old.
Ogumoro said they are asking members of the community to take precautionary measures when fishing.
“We advise the public to refrain from fishing in those areas that pose a threat for fishing,” she said, citing as example the areas where the waves are high and the ocean currents are dangerous.
