In his letter to the Legislature, Cruz said the “excuses” of the DPL secretary are “nothing more than a cover-up to avoid being questioned about the integrity of his department.”
“We have reasons to believe that a huge scandal in the department has taken place and warrants an immediate explanation by Mr. John Del Rosario,” he told lawmakers.
Del Rosario told the Senate that he cannot attend the hearing because he has to address concern raised by some investors regarding investment opportunities in the CNMI.
He also told Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider, R-Tinian, and chairman of the Senate Committee on Resources, Economic Development and Programs, that DPL is looking into the proposed landfill on Tinian, a “very pressing issue” that needs to be addressed immediately.
Cruz said Taotao Tano is investigating alleged illegal activities involving DPL which, he added, has to make some explanation to the community.
He said Del Rosario continues to ignore their complaints “simply since he is ultimately the one person responsible for authorizing and [is] the signatory of such illegal activities.”
The Senate committee’s public hearing aims to seek clarification from DPL on the identification of public lands reserved for economic development and those for homesteads.
