“It’s not a good omen,” Rep. Stanley T. Torres, R-Saipan, told the Variety. “We should respect the dead and honor their day.”
Torres said most of the 20 House members are flying to Rota in time for their Friday session at the courthouse there.
Speaker Arnold I. Palacios, R-Saipan, told House members in a memorandum, “Please make the necessary travel arrangements for your trip.”
The speaker could not be immediately reached for comment.
According to Torres, the community should take advantage of the weekend holidays to reflect on their departed loved ones.
In a predominantly Roman Catholic community like the Northern Marianas, residents visit cemeteries to pray for the souls of their departed loved ones on Nov. 1.
