PAWS calls on community to push anti-cruelty law

In an e-mail, Busenkell, who also chairs Beautify CNMI!’s animal welfare committee, said they have been collecting signatures from concerned citizens in the community for a petition that calls for the enactment of the anti-cruelty law.

In an earlier interview, Busenkell said they were planning to get as many signatures as possible before submitting the petition to he Legislature.

But Busenkell said they “just don’t have enough volunteers” to collect the signatures.

She recently received an e-mail from two teachers whose dog was shot.

“Enough is enough,” she said. “Saipan cannot prosper if it does not protect the property (animals) of its citizens, particularly those that work to improve our community.”

She said that something must be done about the situation.

Busenkell is encouraging the community to help them make the island a better place by demanding the passage of the anti-cruelty law.

She is also urging the community to tell the police to investigate on the killing of the dog of Lindsay and Glenn Smith, and write letters to the editors to expose unresolved or unaddressed incidents involving cruelty to animals.

“Together, we can make a difference to improve the quality of life for humans and animals alike through humane animal control methods in the CNMI,” Busenkell said.
