Rep. Stanley T. Torres, R-Saipan, has asked the Division of Environmental Quality, the Coastal Resources Management Office and the Saipan Zoning Board to look into the complaint.
“My office has been bombarded and continues to receive reports from residents of Chinatown complaining about smoke emissions and noise pollution coming from a power generator that is situated in the vicinity. The generator is at the Hyatt Regency Hotel employees housing,” Torres told the DEQ, CRM and zoning board officials.
Torres said he was told that there are two generators at the hotel’s 120-room housing facility.
Steve Tilley, administrator of the Saipan Zoning Board, said they inspected the site and found that one of the generators will be shut down once the staff housing facility’s construction project is finished.
Tilley said it’s probably best to wait until then before any action is taken.
He added that he is also unsure if his office has jurisdiction on the complaint.
