CUC anticipates pipe leaks, water service disruption

Bruce Megarr, CUC deputy director for water and wastewater, said the 30- to 40-year-old pipes in the ground have only been marginally pressurized.

When CUC fully pressurizes the water connection, he said, there will be service disruption from Finasisu to Gualo Rai up to the old Japanese jail area.

But once fully pressurized, the pipes will provide 24-hour water, he added.

He said water consumers should be aware of the increased pressure and check if they have leaks and other internal problems with water connections.

“We want to see that nothing is wasted,” Megarr told Variety.

He said the supply issue is still the top concern in community especially in cases of power outages which affect the water supply.

But the problem with pipe leakage is only minimal, he said, as the community members are very cooperative in reporting to CUC about water leaks in their areas.

According to Megarr, they have also been addressing issues about water contamination by conducting periodic bacterial contamination tests.
