Jesus Ilo Seman, 32, entered into a plea agreement with the assistance of his counsel, Assistant Public Defender Richard Miller. The government was represented by Assistant Attorney General Michael Evangelista.
Seman waived his rights and entered a guilty plea to the offense of one count of assault and battery, and one count of interfering with a domestic violence report.
Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona sentenced Seman to one year imprisonment for his assault and battery offense, all suspended except for the first 13 days and with credit for time served; and one year for interfering with a domestic violence report, all suspended except for the first 13 days and with credit for time served. The two sentences will run concurrently. He was also placed on probation for two years under the direction of the Office of Adult Probation.
Seman will pay a fine of $250, a court assessment fee of $25, and restitution in the amount of $230.25.
He is ordered to write a letter of apology and have no contact with the victim.
He will render 30 hours of community service, 60 hours of community work service, and will be referred to the Commonwealth Guidance Center for counseling.
Seman is prohibited from consuming any alcohol during the duration of his probation, and he must obey all CNMI and federal laws.
Manglona sets the review hearing for Nov. 19, 2008 at 1:30 p.m.
Seman’s failure to appear in this hearing will result in the issuance of a bench warrant.
According to the information filed by the prosecution in court, Seman assaulted his wife with a knife, punched and slapped her and threw a food container and a jar at her on Aug. 25, 2007.
Prior to the incident, Seman and his wife engaged in a heated argument after a drinking spree.
