Members of AKRHO serve hot soup to island residents who participated in this year’s Mount Tapochao trek on Good Friday.
AKRHO members are happy to provide free food and refreshments to the Good Friday devotees on Mount Tapochao.
THE Alpha Kappa Rho or AKRHO Humanitarian Council served more than 700 cups of free chicken and rice porridge and macaroni soup to Good Friday devotees on Mount Tapochao. They also served hard-boiled eggs and fried chicken.
“It was a successful program — we were able to feed more community members compared to last year,” said Ricardo “Rick” Ansay, the organization’s grand skeptron or president.
The AKRHO members started preparing the food as early as 9 a.m. on Thursday, and set up a canopy near the summit at 12 midnight.
Despite their lack of sleep, the volunteers said they were happy to serve community members on Good Friday.
“It is fulfilling to see their happy smiles,” Ansay said. “The weather is very cold, so the hot soup helped keep them warm.”
