New weightlifting class at Latte Built Kagman

ON Monday, May 1, a new weightlifting class will be available at Latte Built’s Kagman for people “struggling, trying to find the right rhythm for the week,” said coach Lorenzo Sanchez.

The class instructor and a certified personal trainer at Latte Built, he said his class will be held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5 p.m.

The format is simple, and centers on one “push” day, one “pull” day, and a “leg/high intensity interval training or HITT day.”

As an example of what training will be like, Sanchez said a push day could feature bench presses or military presses; pull days could feature different back workouts or deadlifts; and HITT days add variety to the workouts.

He said he has a full repertoire of exercises prepared for clients.

According to Sanchez, the class was born out of an observation he had while at work.

“As a person who goes to the gym a lot, I notice a that lot of form and technique need a lot of improving,” he said.

He noted that many young, new lifters come to Latte Built excited and motivated by workout videos they saw on social media, but they lack consistency.

“What happens is that [they] tend to not focus on one thing. You take too much advice and you’re unable to make progress because you don’t have a steady workout routine,” Sanchez said.

He wants to make weightlifting goals accessible to all who come to Latte Built.

“We all start from somewhere,” he said. “You go to the gym, you don’t know what body part to work on what day, so you’re struggling, trying to find the right rhythm for the week. Why not have a class where all you do is show up, follow instructions and you don’t have to worry so much about scheduling your different workouts.”

Sanchez said the class comes at no charge for Latte Built members, but there is a $10 fee for non-members.

The current plan is to conduct the class at Latte Built Kagman. When demand increases, the class can be offered on different days at the Oleai location.
