THE newly organized Saipan Beacon Lions Club or SBLC held its first general membership meeting at Sunny Side Café in Garapan on Monday evening.
Chartered in the CNMI by the Lions Clubs International on Jan. 12, 2023, SBLC is the 10th Lions Club in the Commonwealth under District 204, Region 2, Zone II.
Marcelo “Mar” Masilungan, SBLC’s charter president, said the new club was formed to further expand the reach of the International Association of Lions Clubs and help fulfill its mission statement which is, “To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs.”
SBLC also aims to launch meaningful community service projects for the benefit of the residents of the CNMI especially those most in need, Masilungan added.
These community projects will be in line with the Lions Clubs International’s goals which are focused on childhood cancer, hunger, environment, diabetes, and vision.
Masilungan said the newly established club also plans to help promote youth leadership development and assist in other areas of community service as the needs arise.
SBLC currently has 22 members.
