The Mobil Oil Marianas in Chalan Kiya displays its new prices on Friday.
MOBIL Oil Marianas and Shell Marianas on Saipan reduced their fuel prices by 10 cents on Friday and Saturday respectively.
The regular gas price went down to $5.21 a gallon from $5.31 a gallon; the premium gas price to $5.66 a gallon from $5.76 a gallon; and diesel to $5.88 a gallon from $6.18 a gallon.
On Saturday, Tinian Fuel Services reduced its regular gas price to $6.99 a gallon from $7.09 a gallon, and diesel to $7.79 a gallon from $7.95 a gallon.
On Rota, Calvo Enterprises had yet to implement the price roll back. On Sunday, its regular gas price was still $6.79 a gallon, and diesel still cost $9.97 a gallon.
Roy Tuazon, a construction worker on Saipan, said it matters a lot to him even if it’s only a 10-cent price roll back. He said he spends $50 worth of gas a week.
“So it really hurts my pocket when the gas price increases even by 10 cents, and its good news to me when it goes down by 10 cents,” he added.
In the U.S., Fox News reported that the average price for a gallon of gas has decreased after oil prices fell $5 from last week to $70 per barrel.
“The cost for oil accounts for 55% of what we pay at the pump,” American Automobile Association spokesperson Andrew Gross was quoted as saying. “So higher or lower oil costs will play a major role in the price we pay when fueling up.”
