LEOWELL Cristobal topped the 67kg-81kg weight class at the Miami Classic in Florida last week while setting a couple of personal records.
Cristobal, who competed against nine other lifters, pushed past his limits with a lift of 102kg in the snatch portion and 134kg in the clean & jerk for a total weight of 236kg.
“Overall, I’m pretty happy with my performance,” said Cristobal, a Marianas High School alumnus. “I’ve been training for this meet since August, hoping for bigger numbers for the U.S. Nationals and the Micro Games if given the opportunity,” he added.
At the Miami Classic, he recorded the highest Sinclair coefficient at 322kg. “For me, it’s another number I can use to see how well I’m doing comparatively against other athletes in the nation,” he said.
Cristobal recently earned his USA Weightlifting or USAW Level 2 certification. “One of my goals is to become a USAW nationally certified coach and getting my Level 2 was a step towards that,” he said. “Going through the course has helped me as an athlete and a future coach to better understand the many aspects of weightlifting, from programming to technique.”
Cristobal, a 2022 Pacific Mini Games medalist, plans to compete in the upcoming Micronesian Games and Pacific Games and is also interested in participating in the Oceania Weightlifting Federation Elite Training Camp in Samoa.
Cristobal said he would also like to wish his mother, Ana Marie Cristobal, a happy birthday in advance.
