On Monday morning, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, with Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services Acting Commissioner Jesse C. Mesa, DFEMS and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting personnel, American Red Cross-NMI Chapter Executive Director John Hirsh, and members of the community, gathered to proclaim the week of Oct. 9-15, 2022 as National Fire Prevention Week and Oct. 9, 2022 as National Fallen Firefighters Day. The governor recognized the efforts of DFEMS and its personnel’s hard work in ensuring the safety of our Commonwealth. He also encouraged community members to take the proper preparations to ensure their safety in the event of a fire. To recognize the sacrifices of firefighters and emergency services personnel, and to honor those who have given their lives for our safety, the governor said the CNMI will observe Oct. 9, 2022, National Fallen Firefighters Day, by lowering American and CNMI flags on all buildings to half-staff.
