KOROR (Island Times/Pacnews) — Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. will be traveling overseas for most of the month, departing on the 6th and returning at the end of September.
Whipps will be in Japan from Sept. 6 to 10. While there he expects to sign a memorandum of understanding regarding transportation, and discuss an ongoing power project for Palau.
Joining the president in Japan are Minister of Public Infrastructure and Industries Charles Obichang, and Minister of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism and Development Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl. They will meet with different airline executives in Japan to discuss possible flight schedules to Palau.
Whipps will then head to Guam on Sept. 10 to hold a town hall meeting with the Palauans residing there. Afterward, he will depart to Hawaii to attend the Pacific Islands Conference Leaders which is set for Sept. 12-14.
President Whipps will fly to New York to attend the 77th United Nations General Assembly meeting from Sept. 13 to 27. Joining him are Palau lawmakers.
Whipps and other Pacific island leaders have also been invited by U.S. President Joe Biden to a meeting in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 28-29.
Whipps said he may also go to Singapore to sign an MOU with other airlines that want to fly to Palau.
