THE Commonwealth Ports Authority earned a total of $11,747 from the sale of decommissioned items at public auctions on Saipan, Tinian and Rota earlier this month.
This 2007 Ford Escape was auctioned earlier this month by the Commonwealth Ports Authority.
In his report to the board of directors on Thursday, CPA Executive Director Christopher Tenorio said the auctions resulted in earnings of $10,370 on Saipan, $1,077 on Rota, and $300 on Tinian.
Among the items that were auctioned on Saipan were a 2007 Ford Escape, a 2002 Ford Econoline Van, two 1992 Nissan Pathfinders, an E-One Titan Truck, a John Deere tractor, a 40-foot container, baggage carts, a Caterpillar generator, furniture, office chairs, a bench, several air-conditioning units, security cameras, desktop computers, printers and trash bins.
As for the items that were not sold, Tenorio said they are “for disposal.”
CPA Chairwoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds said: “This is something that CPA should have been doing on an annual basis, but did not. One of the findings in the audit is the lack of proper management of equipment. We didn’t have standard operation procedures or SOPs for proper disposal of decommissioned items.”
Since the recent audit and a letter from the Federal Aviation Administration, she said CPA has worked to develop and implement standard operation procedures for an annual disposal of decommissioned items after inventory.
