Legislature honors ESGR Guam-CNMI committee for service, commitment

SPEAKER Edmund S. Villagomez, along with other members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, on Monday presented to the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Guam-CNMI Committee and volunteers a framed copy of House Joint Resolution 22-17, which recognizes ESGR for its exceptional service and commitment to servicemen and women.

Authored by Villagomez and co-sponsored by the rest of the 22nd House, with the Senate concurring, H.J.R. 22-17 also thanks and appreciates civilian employers for their utmost support to the servicemembers by recognizing the week of Aug. 7-13, 2022 as ESGR Week.

ESGR Guam-CNMI Area Chair Rita A. Sablan, Ed.D., on behalf of the committee, expressed their “sincere and profound appreciation to the House of Representatives and the Senate for commemorating ESGR Week and also for recognizing that we’ve been around for 25 years here in the CNMI.”

She also thanked CNMI employers who, she said, are the biggest supporters of the National Guard and the Reservists.

ESGR Guam-CNMI Employer Outreach Coordinator Rose Igitol also thanked the 22nd Legislature — and the veterans.

“We honor those who served, those that are serving and those who will serve. I just want to stress that so that the gentlemen here in the Legislature who are veterans will feel proud as well,” she said.

ESGR Week

Prior to the presentation of the joint resolution in the House chamber, the ESGR Guam-CNMI Committee witnessed Gov. Ralph DLG Torres signing a proclamation designating Aug. 8-12 as ESGR Week.

“I urge the people of the Marianas to support these brave men and women for all the work they do,” he said. “The members of the Guard and Reserves contribute to the safety and security of our entire nation and their civilian employers are also on the frontlines of our security as they support them. The Commonwealth and the entire nation would not be the same without the ESGR and their many contributions to our community.”
