Hotshots power past Lady Eagles 19-7 in ladies softball

THE Hotshots are off to a hot start in the Ladies Division of the Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League after thrashing the Lady Eagles, 19-7,  Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.

The Hotshots showcased their dominance right from the start by scoring 12 runs in the very first inning.

The scoring spree started with Jan’s 2-RBI double, bringing in Erican and Bex, while Britney, who was first at bat, reached home due to an error for a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles tried to stop the bleeding with a 6-4 play for their first out, but the Hotshots added three more runs before the second out.

The Hotshots continued their scoring rampage as they made a full offensive rotation with Britney, Erica and Tash earning two RBIs each to extend their team’s lead, 12-0.

The Lady Eagles fought back with Jeanette notching two RBIs but the Hotshots answered with six more runs. The Lady Eagles, for their part, came up with three additional runs only and trailed, 5-18.

The Lady Eagles stepped up defensively with only one slip up in the third inning to shut down the Hotshots for the remainder of the game. The Lady Eagles then brought in two more runs in the fifth and final inning before calling it quits, 7-19.

Winner’s circle

In another Ladies Division game, the Queens of Diamond silenced the 670 Babes, 15-0.

The Queens started off with a bang thanks to Kianna’s solo homerun first at bat followed by a sacrifice play by Amy, bringing home Baby and Bert for 2 RBIs and a 3-0 lead. Then, in the second inning, the Queens added four more runs to widen their lead, 7-0.

The Babes managed to shake off the jitters in the bottom of the third inning as they allowed only one run, but their hopes were quickly shattered as the Queens returned in the fourth with seven runs — made mainly off errors — to put the game out of reach.

The Queens also played well defensively as they only allowed the Babes a total of six hits throughout the entire game for a 15-0 shutout victory.
