(NMSA) — The Northern Marianas Sports Association will hold a special general membership meeting on Aug. 25 for the election of the new NMSA board of directors.
The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. in the NMSA conference room at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The incoming NMSA board will have its work cut out for the them, as the CNMI prepares for several off-island competitions. First up are the Micronesian Games in the Marshall Islands that will run July 25 to Aug. 5, 2023. There’s also the 2023 Solomon Islands Pacific Games that will be held from Nov. 19 to Dec. 2, while Palau will host the Pacific Mini Games in the summer of 2025.
The incoming NMSA board will also have to prepare for the 2027 Pacific Games that Tahiti is hosting.
Locally, the incoming NMSA board will have to oversee the ongoing improvement projects at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Major transformations have been made through the Federal Emergency Management Agency funding and the support of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and the Pacific Mini Games Organizing Committee, resulting to the successful staging of the 2022 Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games. However, there are many projects that still need to be completed, such as the replacement of the gym floor and the installation of a new fence for the Oleai Sports Complex to provide the community better and safer facilities.
In addition, the NMSA board will continue to provide assistance to member federations, promote good governance, work on financial stability, and support athlete development.
