THE first day for the submission of the candidates’ nominating petitions and other required documents is today, Monday, July 11.
They will be accepted until Wednesday, Aug. 10.
The candidates for governor are Republican Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, independent candidate Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Democrat Rep. Christina M. Sablan.
Torres’ running mate is Senate Floor Leader Vinnie F. Sablan; Palacios has partnered with Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang; while Tina Sablan is paired with Rep. Leila Haveia F. Staffler.
The candidates for Saipan mayor are Democrat Rep. Richard T. Lizama, Independent former Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council Chairman Ramon B. Camacho, and Republican Rep. Joseph Leepan T. Guerrero.
The other Republican candidates for mayors are Valentino N. Taisacan Jr. for the Northern Islands mayor, Edwin Aldan of Tinian, and Aubrey Hocog of Rota.
Democrat Rep. Celina R. Babauta, Independent Rep. Corina Magofna, Independent former Rep. Andrew Salas and Republicans Rep. Angel A. Demapan and former Rep. Janet U. Maratita are the candidates for Saipan’s two Senate seats.
Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider and fellow Republican Sen. Karl King-Nabors are both seeking re-election on Tinian.
On Rota, Independent Rep. Donald M. Manglona and Republicans Dennis Mendiola and Efraim Atalig, the outgoing mayor, are the senatorial candidates.
Democrat Diego Vincent F. Camacho; Independents Vincent S. Aldan and Raymond U. Palacios; Republicans Rep. Roy A. Ada, Frankie F. Angel, Arlene Marie M. Reyes, Patrick M. Cepeda and Lucinda R. Selepeo are among those seeking to represent Precinct 1, which has six seats in the House of Representatives.
Independents Rep. John Paul P. Sablan and Manny Gregory T. Castro; and Republicans Keith C. Ada and Eric B. Esteves are the House candidates vying for the two seats of Precinct 2.
Democrats Rep. Vicente Camacho, Lauren Yvonne S. Pangelinan, and Rep. Denita K. Yangetmai; Independents Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez, Vice Speaker Blas Jonathan T. Attao, Floor Leader Ralph Yumul, Marissa Flores, and Delbert T. Pua; Republicans Grace Sablan-Vaiagae, Ana D. Castro, Quaid O. Ngirchongor, Alfred L. Saures, and Carl Hocog are the House candidates for Precinct 3 which has six seats.
Independents Rep. Joel Camacho and Malcolm Omar; and Republicans Cecilia R. Taitano and Randy R. Sablan are running to represent Precinct 4 which has two House seats.
Independent Angelo A. Camacho; and Republicans Lorenzo I. Deleon Guerrero and Thomas John DLC Manglona are vying to represent Precinct 5 which has two House seats.
Republican Rep. Patrick H. San Nicolas is seeking re-election on Tinian while Republican Ivan Mereb is seeking Rota’s lone House seat.
The three political groups are expected to formally announce their final slates and file their nominating petitions and candidacy documents before the August 10 deadline.
