MILITARY veteran and retired police officer Edward Castro Barcinas vows to be the Rota people’s “strong voice” in the House of Representatives.
In an interview on Thursday, Barcinas, who is running as an independent candidate, said he is “running, first and foremost, to give you a strong voice in the discussions of our island’s future.”
He said he also wants to keep the government in check and empower the people to make their own decisions. He wants to give back to the community and make a difference.
“I am a retired police officer and a military veteran. I have the best and most supportive partner, Maryann Borja, nine grandchildren and inspiring kids, Lucretia, Edward Barcinas Jr. and Edmund,” he said.
Edward C. Barcinas said he believes there are workable solutions to the high cost of living on Rota. If elected, he would help the marginalized people on the island, especially the indigent medical referral patients.
“I am not going to be a politician by career. I am here to help the poor people of Rota,” he said.
Barcinas quoted President Thomas Jefferson: “The government closest to the people serves the best people.”
“I highly agree with President Jefferson, especially in a day when everyday people struggle to understand the increasingly complex issues we are facing at this point. But we are a community of leaders, and I will assure you to bring this leadership to the CNMI Legislature,” Barcinas said.
“I love the island of Rota and this wonderful CNMI we live in, but we can absolutely do better. We can simplify, we can scale back, and we can put more control in the hands of the individual. I will be a tireless advocate for you. I pledge to communicate openly, honestly, and frequently because you deserve a representative who listens to you, shares your beliefs, and voices for your concerns. I hope I can earn your support. Thank you.”
