Woman gets 12 months for ice possession

Guihua Luo King, 33, entered a guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

The court dismissed the other charge for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

The defendant appeared with her counsel Vincent Seman while Assistant United States Attorney Eric O’Malley appeared on behalf of the federal government.

The federal government asked the court to sentence the defendant to a 12-month jail term and three years of supervised release.

The defense, for its part, said King should be allowed to serve her remaining jail term in a local facility, which the federal government did not oppose.

Upon release, King will be brought to a duly authorized immigration official for deportation proceedings. If immediate deportation fails to occur and she is released, she will immediately report to the U.S. Probation Office and comply with the terms of her supervised release.

She must also perform 200 hours community service.

The court waived all fines except for a special assessment fee of $100 which King will pay immediately after sentencing.

King and her husband and co-defendant Oscar King were arrested by police authorities on charges of one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine hydrochloride, or ice, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute ice on April 12, 2008 on Tinian.
