They are their school’s nominees to the prestigious Education Day awards that will be announced by the Public School System and the Board of Education later this month.
A graduate of Araullo University in the Philippines, Dominador Ayeras spent six years teaching at Rota High School.
He is now in his fourth year at Chacha Oceanview Junior High.
In an interview with student Naomi Benjamin, Ayeras said he is convinced that his hard work and commitment to public school students was the main reason he was chosen for the honor.
“All the hard work finally paid off,” he said, adding that he enjoys every minute he shares with his students.
“Knowing I could help out a community is what inspired me to become an educator,” Ayeras said.
Chacha’s teacher aide of the year, Gerald M. Agulto, graduated from Marianas High school in 1993. He has been with the PSS special education program for eight years now.
Agulto said he was very honored to receive the recognition.
“I didn’t expect it,” he said, adding that he really enjoys helping children with disabilities.
Agulto said he has a challenging job but having a son with disabilities gives him more reasons to help his students.
He said his inspiration to become an educator was his father who used to be a teacher and a vice principal for over 30 years.
Chacha faculty also lauded the selection of Martin S. Borja as their support staff of the year.
