New law appropriates $367K for Saipan projects

The bill was sponsored by House Minority Leader Oscar M. Babauta, Covenant-Saipan; Reps. Justo S. Quitugua, D-Saipan; David M. Apatang, R.-Saipan;. Edward T. Salas, R.-Saipan; Stanley T. Torres, R.-Saipan; and House Floor Leader Joseph N. Camacho, R-Saipan.

 Almost a quarter of the appropriations or $86,000 will be spent to pave the student parking areas of Kagman High School and Koblerville Elementary School.

The Public Works secretary, in consultation with the principals of the affected schools, will be the expenditure authority.

The new law also appropriates $15,000 for the rehabilitation of the Kagman II baseball field.

Likewise, the Veterans Cemetary in Marpi will get $10,000 for its improvement and maintenance expenses.

The Tangantangan Road paving and drainage improvement will get the highest appropriation at $107,000.

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. will get $104,000 to upgrade the water lines in Dandan.

Northern Marianas College will get $45,000 to pave the local road leading to its Saipan campus.

The new law has a clause exempting the appropriations from being subjected to fiscal year limitation.

“Additionally, funds appropriated under this act shall not be reprogrammed for any other purpose,” it added.
