KagES honors Education Day nominees

Vying for the CNMI teacher, teacher aide, and support staff of the year awards are Elena Enriquez, Rose Sablan and Eladia Muna.

The three employees will compete with their colleagues from the other 19 public schools with the top winner getting the chance to vie for the national title in Washington, D.C.

Elena Enriquez was voted by the Kagman faculty as the school’s 2008 teacher of the year for exemplifying her devotion and commitment to student learning and success.

“I was surprised, excited and somewhat overwhelmed,” Enriquez said upon receiving the honor bestowed to her by her “Blue Marlin” family.

Enriquez said she loves teaching children and seeing them grow as individuals.

“I want them to keep working hard to become better students and better citizens,” she said in an interview with student  Del-Eloise Mendiola.

Enriquez has taught at Kagman since the school opened eight years ago.

Rose Sablan, KagES teacher aide of the year, has been working under the school’s special education program for the past six years.

“I was surprised! I didn’t believe it! I was probably chosen because I work so hard, my attendance is good, and I work well with the students,” she said.

Sablan said she enjoys working with students with disabilities.

“I have a niece with a disability and working with these students helps me better interact with her.  At the end of the day, I go home with pride, knowing I helped students learn something new,” she adds.

KagES support staff of the year is Eladia Muna said she felt “nervous and shy” when she found out her colleagues had honored her performance.

Muna is one of the school’s most valuable employees who devotes so much time and energy into getting the job done, the school faculty stated.

Her colleagues described her as very supportive.
