Tudela says he’s promoting tourism in China

On Nov. 8, Tudela said he met the mayors of Baishan and Siping municipalities to discuss possible economic opportunities between them and Saipan.

Last week, he said he met with Korean investors who expressed willingness to open entertainment and amusement centers on Saipan.

These investors also met with Department of Commerce officials.

The mayor said he went to China with his staff members Jose Tenorio and George M. Camacho, and Northern Marianas College’s agricultural consultant Isidoro T. Cabrera.

Tudela said he signed sister city agreements with the two Chinese municipalities.

“The signing of the two agreements will enhance future opportunities in the area of modern technology, fisheries, student cultural exchange programs, education and water sources that can benefit Saipan,” he said.

In China, Tudela said they visited mineral water, beer and corn factories as well as a slaughterhouse.

He said a potential investor has expressed interest in expanding his water factory business to Saipan.

In his meeting with Siping Mayor Li Xijie, Tudela said they discussed investment opportunities in the city, particularly the agricultural business.

“We acknowledged the big potential if Saipan can have the factories, slaughterhouses and vegetable farms that we have not seen in the CNMI,” Tudela said.

Baishan, he added, is one of the top three mineral water producers in the world, after Germany and Switzerland.

On Nov. 13, Tudela said he made a courtesy visit to the office of Shanghai Airlines and met its president.

Tudela said he asked Shanghai Airline officials to provide additional direct flight service to Saipan.

The mayor’s trip was arranged by Patrick Wang of the American-China Friendship Association.
