Fiji’s Interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama has said democratic elections will not go ahead in March despite his earlier promise that they will.
Somare told Sydney’s Lowy Institute that Fiji’s recent move to re-engage with the Pacific Forum is a positive sign.
“I think the message was clear from the foreign leaders,” he said. “I think that now that he’s agreed to be in the group again, we believe that we would be able to achieve some solution on this question of bringing the election forward.”
