World class ballet dancers on Saipan

“The Swan Lake Ballet and Concert of International Ballet Stars” will be held on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Palms Resort Saipan.

Margarita Rudina and Alexey Nasadovich of the Ekaterinburg Ballet & Opera Theatre will be performing together with  members of the Yang Ballet Theatre and the Ko Eun Kyung Ballet Academy from Seoul, South Korea.

Anna E. Glushko has been bringing Russian ballet dancers to Saipan for the past seven years to showcase one of her country’s greatest cultural contributions to the world.

A ballerina herself, Glushko said ballet is a treasure that should be shared with the local community she has called home for the past nine years.

Due to the global economic crisis, Glushko said it’s becoming more difficult to produce ballet shows with performers from Russia.

“It’s been harder and harder to do this but we’re counting on the community’s support,” she said.

About 50 of Glushko’s students are also performing.

Dr. Gene Sylvester Eagle-Oden, Glushko’s husband, said the “Swan Lake” is an internationally renowned ballet classic that the community will appreciate.

“This is a nonprofit venture designed to keep ballet alive and available in Micronesia,” he said.

The Palms Resort Saipan will open its door for the show at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are sold at $15 per adult. Children get a discounted rate.
