What can be done? You are right — stop the few bad ones and vote out the bad or do nothing leaders and then THE MAJORITY OF THE KIND, RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, FAIR, CARING, FINE CITIZENS OF THE CNMI CAN LET THEIR WARMTH AND KINDNESS SHOW TO ALL WHO VISIT THE BEAUTIFUL ISLANDS OF THE CNMI!
It is the kindness of the people and SAFETY that will bring tourists pouring into the CNMI to spend their vacations — all of the fun things to do are just ornaments on the tree. IT’S SAFETY AND THE PEOPLE THAT WILL BRING TOURISTS THERE.
ON THE CNMI ECONOMY — THE WAY IT LOOKS HELL MIGHT FREEZE OVER BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT IMPROVES IT. HOWEVER THE CNMI BECAME STRONG, AND WEALTHY ONCE AND IT CAN DO IT AGAIN. The USA WENT BROKE IN THE 1930’s AND WHEN I FIRST WENT TO JAPAN IT WAS THE POOREST ISLAND IN THE PACIFIC — 90 percent of the people were walking, no running water, no cooling for the outdoor fish markets (the smell has never left me and I don’t want to eat fish to this day). When I last went to Japan I was thinking how different now then when I first went there. The valley from the airport to Mount Fuji was all rice fields and now it’s full of office buildings and factories. THEY CAME BACK AND SO CAN THE CNMI.
As a high school student I worked in my father’s grocery store and became a supermarket manager when I was 22. I remember when home freezers came out — I panicked thinking that our frozen storage business was over. No way, my father ordered and sold as many as he could get. I had to drive to the train depot and haul them all to the store. When TV sets came out — same thing — he ordered and sold and I hauled them to the store. We added a huge income to the store. The good news was that when we finished he bought me a new pick-up!
WHAT CAN THE CNMI DO? Generate ideas, get something to replace the garment factories, get some manufacturing started on the island that will employ local people. Contact companies in the USA that need telephone operators or computer operators and set up these to be operated from the CNMI — not India or China etc. The harbor needs to be busy shipping goods world wide. You can write your own future. IT CAN BE DONE.
