Man hammered woman’s head but still failed to get her purse

The victim, who is from South Korea, sustained injuries from the hammer attacks but she refused to seek medical help.

The gunshots that the still at large suspect fired did not hit her.

Department of Public Safety Spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said the attempted robbery incident occurred at around 9:16 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, at an apartment complex behind the CYC Store.

“According to preliminary investigation, the victim had just parked her vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex located behind CYC Store when a male individual wearing a mask approached her from the drivers’ side and began hitting her head. A struggle ensued between the victim and suspect, as he was trying to steal her purse,” said Ogumoro.

“During the struggle, she was also hit by a hammer and shot at with a gun that the suspect had in his possession. A total of five shots were fired. According to the victim she was not hit as she did not receive any gunshot wounds,” she added.

The suspect was accompanied by another masked male suspect who also fired several gunshots in the air.

The two fled the scene when the victim did not yield to their attacks and intimidation.

They took two sedans—a green and gold.

Ogumoro is appealing to the public to help police solve the case.

“DPS is asking the community for their help in identifying these culprits or providing any information regarding this case. You can call the Criminal Investigation Division at 664-9042/50,” she said.
