Laolao Bay Golf Resort president Yun Kim, in an interview last week, said when they hire people they prefer residents living nearby.
He said since the resort is in Kagman, he thinks it is better to hire its residents as long as they are qualified and diligent enough to work for the resort.
“We just want to serve the community the best way we can,” he said.
To date, 40 percent of the company’s workforce comprise local residents and majority of them live in the villages of Kagman.
The resort has over 100 employees and will need about 75 more once its Golftel is constructed next year.
With over 4,000 residents, Kagman is one of the island’s most populated area.
Kagman Komunidat Association president Jesse Torres said the main concern of Kagman residents working is the gasoline cost.
Although the fuel price is down now, they do not know for how long, he added.
Not a lot of residents in Kagman he said, own a car and they are fortunate to have a big employer in the neighborhood like Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
He also noted the opening of other commercial establishments in the area which will give Kagman residents more — and nearer — employment options.
“We welcome Laolao Bay resort and the other businesses that are moving to Kagman,” he said.
Many residents want to apply for jobs as soon as the Golftel is open for business, Torres said.
