Youth Congress favors stricter monitoring of sexually violent predators

The resolution, authored by Youth Sen. Alana May Leon Guerrero, aims to protect the citizens of the commonwealth, particularly the youth.

“Sexual assault against minors ranks among one of the most serious offenses toward young individuals, and because of the seriousness of such crimes, strict enforcement and monitoring of sexually violent predators should be vigorously implemented” the resolution stated.

It added that “the community should educate the youth about the dangers from others around homes and streets, because it takes a complete effort from all members to ensure that the youth are protected from harm.”

The resolution requests  DPS, the Probation Office, and the Parole Board to monitor  individuals registered as sexual offenders.

Last year, over a hundred individuals registered in the CNMI as sex offenders.

The registry is updated regularly and the information is distributed and posted in conspicuous places to keep the public informed.

DPS spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro earlier said they would update the Web site and post a complete list of sex offenders with complete information and photos for easier monitoring.
