(NMC) — Northern Marianas College recognized 37 scholarship recipients who received financial aid from various private organizations such as the Asian and Pacific Islander American – Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution or APIA-AANAPISI, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, and the Matson scholarship program.
The students were recognized at a small gathering at NMC’s Mango Terrace on Friday, May 6. Recipients from academic years 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22 were honored at the event.
The Tan Siu Lin Foundation scholarship recipients are Edieson Aguirre, James Benjamin, Maricon Bricia-Allen, Aysha Cabrera, Mary Deala, Maritoni Duarte, Charlotte Flores, Kate Garcia, Liqi Huang, Micah Larioza, Jessy Lou Lizama, Victoria Matsunaga, Jamerie Paras, Jerwin Raquepo, Redz Rivera, Cristina Ruiz, Carla Sablan, Laurina Sebaklim, Amy Soliman, and Marylyn Tabuena.
The recipients of Matson’s scholarship program are Joyce Cuenca, Jessy Lou Lizama, Jamerie Paras, Ross Anthony Arriola, and Maricon Bricia-Allen.
APIA-AANAPISI also awarded scholarships to Edieson Aguirre, Annette Shianne Agulto, Elisa Guerrero, Lesly Ibarra, Jerrid Igisaiar, Lorielyn Monica Lacay, Eloise Lopez, Susan Ma, Asiana Manglona, Jomanda Manglona, Abbygail Manuel, Victoria Matsunaga, Abbygail Muleta, Jayda Rinessa Pangelinan, John David Reyes, Carla Sablan, Jermaine Jr. Salas, Carmen San Nicolas, and Christina Tudela.
“The college is grateful to Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, and Matson for continuing to support NMC students,” NMC President Galvin Deleon Guerrero said. “These funds go a long way in helping our students reach their educational and professional goals.”
The Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution Scholarship program is a collaboration with AANAPISI and the communities they serve that provides scholarships, expands institution capacity and mobilizes local resources to help foster economic development. Applicants for the scholarship must be full-time students in a degree-seeking program and be of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity. Applicants must also be citizens, nationals, or legal permanent residents of the United States.
Tan Siu Lin Foundation scholarships are awarded based on merit and are awarded on the basis of the candidate’s community involvement, academic background, and letters of recommendation. The written essay also plays a key role in the final selection of scholarship recipients.
Matson awards scholarships to full-time NMC students pursuing a degree in either a bachelor’s in business management or an associate of science in accounting during each academic school year. The scholarships are awarded based on financial need, merit, eligibility, the content of the applicant’s essay, and an interview panel.
