DLNR seeks federal funds for Outer Cove Marina

In an interview on Friday, DLNR Secretary Ignacio Dela Cruz said the improvement of marina is among the projects he had in mind when Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez urged department heads to prepare the project they want to be funded under the stimulus package.

During a meeting with cabinet, Villagomez discussed the stimulus package that will be given to the states and territories.

The funding, however, has to be obtained through a competitive grant application.

The lt. governor advised the cabinet members to prepare proposals so that governor can choose which will get the stimulus funds first, Dela Cruz said.

Built by the Marine Revitalization Corp. in 1995, the Outer Cove Marina has already saddled the NMI government with a $7 million debt which increases by $45,000 a month until it is paid.

He said this project may cost $5 million to $6 million.
