CUC power division manager Gary P. Camacho said the power outage will start at 6 a.m. and end at 10 a.m.
“This outage is required to conduct preventive maintenance and replacement of DC power supply at both the Kiya Substation and Lower Base Substation,” Camacho said.
He said the interruption will allow CUC personnel to work safely at both substations.
This preventive maintenance includes the inspection of the cleanliness of switchgear cell interiors, insulators, circuit breakers, PT & CT, and collect transformer oil for testing, he said.
They will also replace old unreliable batteries with new ones, he added.
The old batteries can no longer maintain their rated voltage when fully charged, he said.
“The system protective relays and circuit breakers will be able to operate as designed to minimize the duration of power outages and it will also allow power plant personnel to remotely monitor and control the substation,” Camacho said.
The systems maintenance will help ensure a more reliable electrical program, he added.
Areas that will be affected are Feeder Kiya 1 covering Dandan, As Terlaje, portions of Fina Sisu, Kana Tabla, San Vicente, portions of Papago, Airport Road, As Gonna, As Perdido and Koblerville.
Feeder Kiya 2 comprises As Lito, portions of Koblerville, San Antonio, Chalan Piao, Afetnas, portions of Chalan Kanoa, Tun Doi Road and portions of Fina Sisu.
Feeder Kiya 4 covers Chalan Kiya, San Jose, Oleai, Susupe, Chalan Kanoa Districts 1, 2 & 4.
Camacho said that traffic lights at the intersection of Chalan Kiya, San Jose, Marianas High School, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and Mt. Carmel Cathedral will also be affected by the outage.
He said CUC apologizes for “any inconvenience the power interruption may impose on the community.”
